Users Committee

The Users Committee implements mechanisms to better understand patient concerns while promoting direct links with this clientele. It reaches patients through an advisory committee, which unites representatives from each of the care units with the exception of intensive care, as these patients only stay for a brief time.

The roles of the committee are outlined in the Act respecting Health Services and Social Services. These roles primarily consist in:

  • Informing users about their rights and responsibilities
  • Promoting improved living conditions for everyone and measuring users' level of satisfaction towards provided services
  • Defending users' rights and collective interests
  • Upon request, supporting and assisting users in any process that they undertake, for example, if they wish to lodge a complaint under the Act respecting Health Services and Social Services or the Act respecting the Health and Social Services Ombudsman

The Users Committee is affiliated with the Council for the Protection of the Sick and is a member of the Regroupement des comités des usagers à vocation psychiatrique du Québec.

Committee composition
The committee is composed of 12 elected members from the different inpatient units as well as a user of the Institut's outpatient services. Members are users of the establishment; however, users who are hospitalized in the admission-readmission-consultation program units do not sit on the council. They are represented by the permanent members of the Users Committee.
