A training environment

Students at the bachelor's degree and master's degree levels regularly come to the Institut Philippe-Pinel de Montréal to complete their statistics training. The Statistics Consulting Group (SCG) also offers training, seminars and conferences on different aspects of statistical analysis, including the use of statistical software (such as SPSS), logistic regression, ROC curves, correspondence analysis, meta-analysis, structural equations, and more.

Biostatistics

The expertise of the SCG in biostatistics is available to research centres, government agencies and the pharmaceutical industry. Considering the very high demand for specialists in this field, experts from the SCG play a pivotal role by providing varied services adapted to the needs of researchers and research professionals. For example, the SCG may determine required sample sizes, perform statistical power calculations, carry out variance and regression analyses, or produce more complex analyses such as multilevel modeling. Members of the Group have contributed a great deal to scientific presentations and publications.

Crime Mapping

The SCG has also developed expertise in the field of Crime Mapping. The demand for specialists in strategic criminal intelligence is on the rise, and the SCG provides the police force with expertise in this field. The SGC combines statistical analysis and mapping techniques (the Geographic Information System) to provide the necessary strategic information that will help police efforts to prevent, understand and manage crime. Developing this expertise helped the group obtain a grant from the FRSQ for the province-wide application of forensic psychiatry services.

Data Mining

The SCG also has expertise in Data Mining, a field increasingly in demand by private companies looking to extract information from large databases. This technique allows companies to improve client relationship and risk management. The fields of application are numerous and include banking, telecommunications, retail sales, and marketing research.

Calculated efforts

The SCG has developed statistical analysis software that specializes in ROC analyses and that caters mostly to the scientific community, which includes researchers, professors, and students. ROCTools is a new and unique tool on the market.
